Mr. Nazim Bayraktar resides in Ankara, Turkey. As a nuclear engineer he worked on the nuclear and solar power investment opportunities in Turkey. He spent 14 years between 2001 and 2014 at the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) where he focused on preparation and implementation of electricity, natural gas and LPG legislations. As the Head of EU Affairs and Competition Department he also worked towards the harmonisation of energy legislation to the EU.
Before his tenure at the EMRA, Nazim worked at Turkish Atomic Energy Authority for 14 years where the scope of his duties covered nuclear power plant negotiations, licensing and safety analysis of NPPs, nuclear energy planning, design & analysis of NPPs and public acceptance studies. He was seconded to IAEA on VVER-440 source term analysis, in Vienna.
In 1997, Nazim joined Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources as an advisor to Undersecretariat focusing on issues concerning the restructuring &liberalization of the energy sector and energy planning. He was a member of the committee, which drafted the electricity market law.
He is a member of the World Energy Council, Turkish National Committee, Association of Energy Experts, and Association of Nuclear Engineers. He graduated from the Physics Department of Hacettepe University in 1980. He completed his master studies in Nuclear Engineering and received his MSc. Degree from the same university in 1983.
